Samhällsämne
When students arrive to Sjölunden they will have the opportunity to choose an elective to take for four weeks. This year our electives focus on Social Studies questions and relate to everything from environmental sustainability to the latest issues and concerns within the modern Swedish society. Environmental Questions
Come and learn about environmental questions and issues in Sweden and the USA! We will compare the two perspectives and discuss what we can do here at Sjölunden to take care of our world.
Drömlandet: Myt eller sanning?
På Sjölunden kan det finnas en tendens att måla upp en bild av Sverige som ett sorts paradis, men inget land är perfekt - inte ens Sverige. Vi kommer analysera de samhälleliga problem och frågor som finns i Sverige och de politiska partier och beslut som påverkar dem.
"Drömlandet": Myth or Reality?
At Sjölunden we sometimes tend to depict Sweden as a sort of paradise filled with köttbullar and små grodor, but no country is perfect - not even Sweden. We are going to analyze current social issues and problems that exist in Sweden today, as well as the political parties and policies that affect them.
Jämföra kulturer
Under denna kursen kommer vi fundera på och diskutera jämförelser mellan den svenska kulturen och USA och andra delar av världen. Vi kommer att diskutera varför dessa synpunkter resulterar i olika perspektiv, värderingar och kulturella förutsättningar. Några aspekter vi kommer att diskutera och jämföra är utbildningssystemet (gymnasiet och universitet), måltider och matkultur, attityder mot invandringen, jobb och karriär, och att nå vuxenlivet.
Comparative cultures
This class will take a closer look at comparing aspects of Swedish culture with the United States and other parts of the world. We will discuss why these viewpoints result in different perspectives, values, and cultural assumptions. Some aspects of culture that we will compare are education (high school and college), meals and food culture, attitudes toward immigration, working life, and reaching adulthood.
